Request for Volunteers for Mining Ordinance Committee
The Select Board is looking for volunteers to review and revise the Mining and Blasting Ordinance that was not approved at the town meeting. The commitment is short term as the Select Board has set a deadline of June 30, 2024 for the committee to complete its assigned task. The resolution adopted by the Select Board at its meeting on April 25, 2024 is as follows:
“That a committee be appointed by the Select Board to review and revise the Mining and Blasting Ordinance proposed at town meeting with the objective of creating one or more ordinances that reflect a balance of the interests of the town and pit owners with regard to mining in the town. The committee will be comprised of:
- two planning board members
- one select board member
- a representative of Crooker Construction, LLC
- two small pit owners, and
- three members of the community at large.
The committee will choose its own moderator/chairperson. The committee will meet, as necessary, to create one or more ordinances that reflect a balance of the interests of town and pit owners with regard to mining in the town. The revised document(s) will be submitted to the planning board, on or before June 30, 2024, for its review and then submitted to the select board for its approval and presented to a special town meeting.”
Although the commitment is for a short period, meetings will be held regularly to accomplish the assignment task.
If you are willing to volunteer, please provide the town clerk with a response by email at alnaclerk@gmail.com or by delivering a response to the town office by no later than May 8, 2024.
