Your Roads, Your Taxes, Your voice
Dear Alna Neighbors,
Alna's Road Committee is looking for volunteers, and we'd love to have you.
The committee advises the Road Commissioner and Select Board on maintenance needs and budget priorities for the town's nearly nine miles of paved roads and over five miles of unpaved roads. Our main work product is the Road Management Plan, which guides how the town invests in its road infrastructure.
Roads are one of the largest parts of the town's budget — which means good planning has a direct impact on everyone's taxes. Serving on the committee is one of the most direct ways to help keep that spending smart and efficient.
We released Alna's first Road Management Plan in February 2025 and now meet every two to three months to keep it current. This year, a key goal is extending our planning horizon beyond 2028 to include future paving priorities. It's not a lot of work, but it matters — and the plan is stronger when it reflects voices from across the whole community.
